Carol Abney is an actress / choreographer / dancer who has received critical media praise both locally and internationally. She has done co-starring roles on television for such shows as Strong Medicine and Cover Me, acted in numerous short and independent films, and currently has two national commercials running. The AFI thesis project Anima, which Abney stars in, is currently making the festival rounds and is nominatedAA for the 2004 Imagen Awards for Best Short. Ms. Abney appeared in Quantum Theatre Company's production of the The Pink Factor, and acted, danced and sang in the San Diego REP's production of the original Doors musical Celebration of the Lizard. Other favorite theatre productions include Unmerciful Good Fortune (accolades from San Diego press, as well as received an award for Outstanding Performance from KPBS radio), Escape from Happiness, Abducting Ariana (a Dario Fo adaptation), and Tartuffe. Carol has also performed in numerous original plays and staged readings of new works. As a choreographer Carol created choreography for the critically acclaimed theatre productions Songplay (Odyssey Theatre) and The Fever (Fritz Theater, San Diego). The latter was named a top 10 show for that year by the San Diego Union Tribune. Carol also produced her own dance-theater work in San Diego with among others Techtonic Productions, Synaptic, Mojalet, Hoffenrich Performance Company, and as "street-theater-happenings-events" during the Republican National Convention in San Diego. Carol has been a dancer for over 20 years. In Los Angeles she has worked with modern dance choreographers Michael Mizerany and Winifred Harris. In San Diego Carol danced with the Patricia Rincon Dance Collective, Lower Left Dance, Cross Arts, and Techtonic Productions as well as in her own projects. In the Netherlands, Sweden, and Peru Carol performed in numerous independent dance projects, including commercials, music videos, televised award ceremonies and stage shows. She has a BA in Theater from the University of California at San Diego and an MA in Dance from the Rotterdam Dance Academy in the Netherlands. By day Carol works as a Pilates instructor. |
